WRITER SPOTLIGHT: Roper & Weiner

In Writer Spotlights by A Little New Music

Coming up at our March 8 concert is a song from LA-based writing team, Roper & Weiner.

Jan Roper brings more than 30 years of experience in Los Angeles as a keyboard player, singer, songwriter, and arranger. As composer, she has written CITY OF LIGHT, which was selected for the 2015 ASCAP/Dreamworks Workshop. She has music directed numerous shows, including her own original rock opera, JERUSALEM A.D. In 2010, the LA WEEKLY Theater Awards nominated her for Best Musical Director for her work in GODSPELL. In her years of live stage experience she has performed hundreds of high-profile gigs as singer and/or keyboard player at venues like the Kodak, Hollywood Bowl and Greek Theater. Jan’s second CD, “The Sweetest Refrain” is available on iTunes under the band name, The Horizons. More info at JanRoper.com.

Julie Weiner studied musical theatre at The Einhorn School for the Performing Arts in New York City and at the Academy for New Musical Theatre in Los Angeles where she honed her craft and co-wrote the original 15 minute musical BANK SHOT, which has since been produced at the Colony Theatre in 2012 and the Digital Natives Festival at UC Irvine in 2013. In collaboration with Jan Roper (and bookwriter and ALNM alum Gabrielle Wagner), Julie wrote lyrics for CITY OF LIGHT.

Jan will be a guest writer at the concert, where you can hear her play their song, performed by prolific character actor, Lisa K. Wyatt.
